I have always had a problem thinking of August as the 8th month of the year. I even missed a birthday once because it was listed as 8 and not August. Past life memories can jump in when you least expect it and cause a few wrinkles as in “where did that come from’.
I always think of September (Septem) as the 7 month, October (Octo) as the 8th month, November (Novem) as the 9th month and December (Decem) as the 10th month. So where did this come from? There was another part of me that also knew that originally the year began in March not January. I’m sure there are others out there that also know this.
In the old Roman calendar March was the first month of the year with the beginning of spring and Aries the first sign of the zodiac. In 154 BCE a rebellion forced the Roman senate to change the beginning of the civil year from March to January 1st. With the reform September officially became the ninth month in the year 153 BCE.
